The WELL Building Standard is a global framework developed by the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI). It measures how built environments impact human health, well-being, and performance. Unlike other sustainability standards, WELL focuses on the people inside the building.
WELL is built on ten core concepts. Each of these concepts includes mandatory preconditions and optional optimizations. To be eligible for any WELL certification, the preconditions must be met. The optional optimizations are weighted through a point system that measures their impact — together determining which level of certification a building can achieve.
The strength of WELL lies in the quantifiability of every single precondition and optimization.
At YUGENING, we strive to design buildings and environments that are ready for WELL certification. Our founder, Véronique Orens, is a WELL Accredited Professional (WELL AP). This means she is formally trained to guide projects and organizations in designing and managing spaces that support human health and well-being. Within YUGENING, she is a pillar of knowledge at every design stage when it comes to putting people first. We aim to align WELL principles with other frameworks that emphasize sustainable building — creating spaces that truly support both people and the planet.
