Res. Cruebeke

Starting from the church as the center, Kruibeke has slowly grown along the regional connecting roads. The urban structure is characterized by the variety of subdivisions and residential neighborhoods, which over time resulted in inefficient land use.

The charme of a decades old, organically grown urban layout presents its unique challenges. How to unlock the potential of ‘forgotten’ patch of land while respecting the villages character and vistas?

Cruebeke is a 11.600 m² text book example of how 58 units of modern housing and urban development can contribute to the social fabric of a local community, rather than upsetting it.

By making the previously non existing link between two main roads available for pedestrians and cyclists, in a green infused area that preserved the vista of the village church, Cruebeke solved a number of issues at once.
To name one example: by alligning the underground parking with the contours of their parent building, the implementation of rainmater infiltration buffering wadis and healthy, natural growth of vegetation became a breeze.
